Governmentwide Treasury Account Symbol Adjusted Trial Balance System (GTAS)
GTAS Edits and Validations
Data validations verify the integrity of the data file and that all attributes are submitted according to the U.S. Standard General Ledger (USSGL) attributes and domain value rules and exceptions, as defined by the USSGL. Each validation will have a corresponding error message that is displayed if the validation fails upon upload. GTAS will not run the accounting edits until the data passes all data validations. Any changes required to the file must be made by the preparer offline; there is no online data entry module in GTAS.
Data validations are always Fatal. The user cannot proceed until the data has been fixed on the bulk file and the validations have been passed. Click here for the GTAS Validations Summary Report and here for the GTAS Validations Detail Report
Once the bulk file data has passed all data validations, the system automatically will begin running the accounting edits against the bulk file. Edits are used to ensure the rules of accounting are followed. For example, an edit would check to confirm that a canceled TAS does not have a balance other than zero for USSGL account 1010, "Fund Balance with Treasury." All edits will be run against each individual TAS. Each edit will have a corresponding error message that is displayed if the edit fails upon upload.
All edits remain at the discretion of FMS administrators as to whether they are Fatal or not. However, users will not be able to certify their data until all Fatal edits have been passed.
